Logistics Key Account Manager
This role is responsible for developing long-term customer relationships and significantly growing key accounts. This role will proactively and relentlessly reach out to existing and prospective customer contacts to educate, promote, and sell our client’s operational capabilities, and Landstar’s wide array of transportation and logistics services. This position will actively facilitate and lead interactions between key customers and cross-functional internal teams to develop and ensure the timely and successful delivery of Landstar solutions. This role is accountable for achieving assigned monthly margin goals. This position reports to the Director Key Accounts.

Responsibilities:
  • Pursue new services and expand current services with key customers.
  • Conduct face-to-face meetings, present proposals, and close new business.
  • Aggressively develop warm leads with high potential accounts.  
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key decision makers controlling supply chains from the front line to the executive level.
  • Achieve key sales performance targets – volume, revenue and gross margin.
  • Facilitate the development of rate quotes that consistently wins new transportation services business while meeting internal gross margin goals. 
  • Stay up to date on all operational functions, and actively facilitate collaborative solutions to operational or billing service issues that arise with customers.
  • Manage customer contracts agreements and terms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on pricing strategy, plus new services and new account implementation plans.
  • Create annual budgets that reflect progress in growing profitable accounts.
  • Communicate sales activities and prospective customers to management.  
  • Track sales activity for each assigned account, plus maintain and update leads, contacts and opportunities using the CRM system.  
  • Track, communicate and facilitate the resolution of cargo claims.
  • Analyze financial information from reports and spreadsheets to develop plans, policies and budgets for increasing profits and improving service.
  • Develop high quality, detailed and accurate PowerPoint presentations for new customer introductions, new services proposals and quarterly reviews.
  • Work with the Director Key Accounts to ensure alignment with departmental and company strategic goals and business plans.  
  • Host customer events.
  • Stay current on industry knowledge including market conditions and trends.
  • Maintain regular, timely, and consistent attendance at work.
  • Travel required as necessary – approx. 1-2 trips per month/1-2 nights per trip.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required in Business Administration, Sales/Marketing, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Logistics, Operations, or related major field of study preferred (graduate degree is a plus).
  • 5+ years of experience with a Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management company is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience managing large, complex key accounts with a documented track record of success is preferred.
  • Experience in selling and implementing complex solutions, leadership and team development, plus process development and process improvement.
  • People management experience is preferred.
  • Operational experience and knowledge is helpful.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Works well under pressure and stress.
  • Possess the emotional intelligence to diffuse conflict and develop key relationships.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, while also delivering independent results.
  • Ability to meet quota-level goals.
  • Strong ability to persuade, motivate and influence others.
