Director of Drayage Safety
The Director of Drayage Safety is a senior-level manager who oversees the compliance and enforcement of the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations in an organization. Responsible for ensuring that the organization meets the federal, state, and local standards for safety, health, and environmental protection in its operations, facilities, and vehicles. This role also develops and implements policies, procedures, and training programs to prevent accidents, injuries, and violations.

Responsibilities:
- Monitor and evaluate the organization's compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations and standards, as well as other applicable laws and guidelines.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of the organization's operations, facilities, and vehicles to identify and correct any safety, health, or environmental hazards or violations.
- Manage and coordinate the investigation and reporting of any accidents, injuries, incidents, or complaints involving the organization's employees, contractors, customers, or the public.
- Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to address any safety, health, or environmental issues or risks.
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive safety, health, and environmental management system that covers all aspects of the organization's activities and processes.
- Create and update policies, procedures, manuals, and guidelines for the organization's safety, health, and environmental programs and practices.
- Develop and deliver monthly training and education programs for the organization's employees, contractors, and managers on DOT and OSHA regulations and standards, as well as other safety, health, and environmental topics.
- Manage and supervise the staff and budget of the safety department.
- Liaise and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, such as senior management, regulators, customers, vendors, and the public, on safety, health, and environmental matters.
- Develop policies, processes, and procedures, and proactive safety-related training.
- Work cross functionally with transportation operations, IT, driver relations, and company executives to ensure best practices are identified and adhered to
- Implement electronic logs and maintain safety files and records, including driver qualification files.
- Manage GeoTab data and use it for coaching and to evaluate driver safety performance.
- Responsible for safety management, discipline, training, and onboarding
- First responder to all safety-related issues as well as serving as a liaison to law enforcement & regulatory agencies.
- Ensure compliance to FMCSA and company safety policies, review all driver violations regarding CSA and Company Policies.
- Meet designated KPIs weekly, monthly, and quarterly according to company policies.
- Other tasks and duties, as assigned.
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in safety, health, environmental, engineering, or related field.
- At least 10 years of experience in safety, health, and environmental management, preferably in a transportation, logistics, or related industry.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of DOT and OSHA regulations and standards, as well as other applicable laws and guidelines.
- Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software and tools.
- Certification or license in DOT and OSHA compliance, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Director of Safety (CDS), or Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS).
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, hours of service rules and experience or exposure to electronic logs.
- Knowledge of Federal Regulations and Company requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Federal, State traffic laws and requirements for tractor/trailer equipment.
- First-hand knowledge of DOT and CHP audits having recently passed either or both.
- Performance Coaching - Defines responsibilities and expectations; gives performance feedback; encourages training and development.
