Carrier Account Manager
This role will be responsible for expanding our client’s carrier network. This role will be responsible for negotiating carrier rates, developing and building carrier relationships, onboarding new carriers, carrier compliance, database tracking, and ensuring excellent customer service.

  • Develop and maintain carrier relationships.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers to achieve the highest margin profitability.
  • Ensure all orders are picked up and delivered on time. Communicate any exceptions to account management.
  • Ensure all drivers use MacroPoint (or a similar tracking tool) to monitor shipments.
  • Develop and manage database of outside carriers.
  • Manage open orders on the freight board and assign carriers within our client’s carrier database and/or add new carriers that are acceptable to our client’s database.  
  • Make phone calls and/or send emails to cover loads and maintain contact with assigned carriers.
  • Issue EFS codes to carriers for lumper, pallet exchange, quick pay etc. You will be responsible for maintaining and submitting used ComChecks to our client’s logistics division so that our client can obtain records.
  • Upon issuing EFS codes, be responsible for obtaining and submitting all proper paperwork that relates to ComCheck written.
  • Obtain and submit paperwork for O, S and D from carrier to account manager for disposition and/or customer notification.
  • Update loads with accessorial charges for carriers.
  • Submit rates for spot loads on customer email, portal etc. (if assigned). This will be maintained by the carrier manager for customer, lane detail, loads won, load numbers and margin made.
  • Goals will be set based upon customer. Goals may or may not include win ratio, margin made, repeat lanes and solicitation efforts.
  • Learn and understand different spot markets with carriers, lane history and other tools provided.
  • After-hours is maintained by our client fleet dispatch.
  • There may be some weekend load coverage that may require you to log in and cover the load(s). Our client strive to cover weekend load pickups prior by Friday or prior. 
  • At times, you may be required to call and/or e-mail shippers, receivers and customers depending upon the situation. Reply to e-mails for the customers’ requests of updates.
  • Issue EFS codes during after-hours for lumpers, pallet exchanges, late fees etc.
  • Our client does not issue EFS codes after 5pm (CST) Monday-Friday or on the weekends for quick pays. They also do not do Fuel Advances.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of logistics experience.
  • Previous carrier sales experience
  • Previous experience selling in 3PL, transportation, or tech is a plus.
  • Experience in managing high volume and multifaceted accounts. 
  • Excellent sales and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work cohesively and efficiently on a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and follow through.
  • Energetic, detail-oriented and highly motivated.
