Logistics Operations Specialist

Job Type: Full-time; Onsite

Responsibilities:
  • Support the US Logistics team through management, compliance and business administration of the import, maritime and inland transportation logistics operations for our client’s activities in North America (primarily US and Canada).
  • Support the day-to-day decision making and execution for safe and successful movement of differentiated value-added products from inbound maritime breakbulk and container vessels to final customer sales terms: Maritime, Port and Terminal, Road/Truck, Rail, Container drayage transport and Warehouse operations.
  • Support coordination, planning and execution and labor ordering of breakbulk vessel discharges on Free-Out fixture basis, working with maritime vessel agents and port stevedores/terminal operators.
  • Provide precise and timely instructions to properly control the safe and effective handling, shipment, customs clearance, material release and delivery of products to customers.
  • Support and manage the tracking and tracing of all transportation modality movements, as well as port and warehouse inventory management.
  • Provide reporting on shipment status (vessel, truck, rail, inventory, etc.), operational updates and required or potential changes to supply chain activities and programs.
  • Coordinate, maintain and support the design of delivery processes for domestic and associated international aspects of the USMCA network.
  • Identify process and continuous improvements to enhance supply
    chain activities.
  • Mediate and settle any transportation disputes involving delivery performance, cost overruns and other behaviors outside of service delivery and standard expectations.
  • Administer effective customer service programs and communicate daily with customer account teams, occasionally customers directly, to meet and exceed expectations of service.
  • Support and manage LSP vendor payables processes with finance departments at the various Hubs in the US, The Netherlands and UK.
  • Verify and be accountable for accurate pricing with all LSP’s, to support business operations and account teams, and adjust/report on freight accrual variances.
  • In compliance with Group Sourcing and procurement guidelines, formulate and drive initiatives aimed at improved transport efficiency and cost reductions.
  • Support investigations into all safety & quality related incidents in ports, warehouses and over-the-road transportation activities underpinned with timely, clear and concise updates as circumstances and next steps become clear.
  • Assess, monitor and maintain LSP & Surveyor performance and report via an agreed KPI structure.
  • Support LSP’s on improvement processes and programs.
  • Back-up support of the control and monitoring of damaged products in the supply chain; link between LSP’s and Customer Service.
  • Initiate improvement projects based on monitoring supply chain
    performance.
  • Support the coordination of stock and inventory check process for
    USMCA locations.
  • Visit ports, terminal and other related supply chain sites to educate, lead and implement our client’s Health & Safety, Operational Excellence and Global Ports & Warehousing Standards.
Experience:
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent career experience is required. Bachelor’s degree in Logistics/Supply Chain Management is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in international and domestic logistics management and procurement is required. 5-8 years in international logistics/supply chain operational execution and management is preferred. Background in international ocean shipping/port/import operations preferred. Experience in the metals/raw materials/projects industries a plus.
  • Strategic Vision and Design that can be tailored into the USMCA steel supply chain.
  • Understanding of North American Supply Chain processes and
    manufacturing.
  • Numerical ability, able to understand, analyze and interpret financial, transportation manifests and general data information.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing continuous improvement
    processes.
  • Change Management is essential.
  • Implementation of complex solutions is as critical as optimum concept design.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-faceted, demanding environment.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities under time
    constraints.

  • SAP knowledge is preferred but not required.
  • Blue Yonder, Transportation Management System is preferred but not required.
  • Strategic thinker, complemented by strong work experience in aspects of Logistics operations (domestic and international) and Logistics planning and development.
