Freight Broker Sales Specialist

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the logistics expert for existing company customers (those utilizing our client’s distribution centers).
  • Identify opportunities to capture their overflow freight, lanes outside of the company’s core services, or freight not handled by the internal fleet.
  • Analyze the in-house customers’ shipping patterns and needs to provide them with competitive, compliant, and efficient brokerage solutions.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the company’s internal sales, distribution, and warehouse teams to ensure seamless service delivery and identify new brokerage opportunities within the existing customer base.
  • Oversee the movement of this freight from quoting through delivery, ensuring high service levels that support overall customer relationship.
  • Aggressively prospect, cold call, and qualify new, external customers to generate sales leads and build a profitable book of third-party logistics business.
  • Manage the entire sales cycle from initial contact to securing the first load and growing the account.
  • Negotiate profitable freight rates and terms with external customers, utilizing market data to secure the highest possible gross margin on loads.
  • Consistently meet or exceed aggressive sales and gross margin goals as set by management.
  • Work closely with the Carrier Sales to efficiently source and secure reliable carrier capacity for all brokered loads.
  • Accurately input and manage load data, tracking, and documentation (BOLs, PODs, Rate Cons) within the Transportation Management System.
  • Act as the primary point of escalation for all brokered shipments, addressing transit, delivery, and capacity issues quickly and effectively.
  • Stay current on market trends, industry regulations, and seasonal capacity changes to ensure competitive pricing and service.
 

Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in Freight Brokerage, 3PL Sales, or Broker Sales is preferred. Experience working within a company that utilizes an asset-based or distribution component is highly preferred.
  • Proven track record of generating new business through cold calling and sustained business development is needed.
  • Strong understanding of various freight modes (TL, LTL, Dray) and standard industry practices are needed.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport with both internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Proficient with TMS, CRM software, and Microsoft Office, ZoomInfo, DAT RateView.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter who can manage their workload independently and thrive in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.

This position offers a competitive base salary.
