Freight Agent
This role will work directly with customers, secure quality carriers and coordinate the transporting of goods and products in accordance with strict delivery schedules. This role will be responsible for the complete sales process including prospecting, lead generation, pricing and closing business. This role will be expected to grow new and existing business and have a proven ability to maximize relationships with carriers and customers utilizing personal contacts, networking, and negotiating to grow sustainable profitable business relationships. This role will also be responsible for the quick and efficient resolution of any conflicts that may arise throughout the shipping process. This position is fast-paced and continuously changing. Successful candidates must be able to make quick decisions, work on several tasks simultaneously, and handle high- stress situations.
Responsibilities:
- Continuously monitor freight throughout the shipping process.
- Confirm shipment instructions, pick-up times and delivery times, and notify the customer of any changes to delivery schedules immediately.
- Create and provide customers with freight quotes.
- Set-up carriers and update carrier information into the Transportation Management System (TMS) dispatching software.
- Negotiate freight rates with carriers.
- Prepare rate confirmation sheets for carriers with each shipment scheduled and confirm acceptance.
- Quickly and efficiently resolve any conflicts that may arise during the shipping process.
- Provide full cycle customer service from contract to delivery.
- Communicate with customers regarding the status of their shipments.
- Grow new and existing business and have a proven ability to maximize relationships with carriers and customers utilizing personal contacts, networking and negotiating to grow sustainable profitable business relationships.
- Conduct cold calling to create, built, and maintain customer relationships.
- Visit customers when needed (must be able to travel up to 10% of your time).
- Complete paperwork, emails, and filing as required.
- Prospect and develop strong professional relationships to sell transportation brokerage services.
- Manage multiple priorities and maintain the flow of business information with a sense of urgency.
- Increase revenue and maximize profitability.
Experience:
- 3-5+ years of brokerage sales and operations experience.
- 2+ years of customer sales experience.
- Must have an existing customer base (book of business) of $1,000,000 plus of annual sales.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have excellent phone etiquette.
- Ability to communicate via email with professionalism.
- Ability to multi-task and handle stress in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work independently and stay organized.
This position offers a competitive base salary plus commission.
