Vehicle Maintenance Manager:
This role manages all aspects of repair and maintenance for a fleet of on-road commercial tractor-trailer equipment regulated by the FMCSA and DOT, a wide variety off-road construction and ranch mobile equipment, and passenger pickup trucks, located at two repair locations. In addition, manages both in-house and third-party repair services for both owned and leased equipment. Will also be responsible for training and developing mechanics and technicians.

Responsibilities: 
  • Ensures safety of the Vehicle Maintenance employees and compliance with internal safe work practice standards as well as regulatory safety standards (MSHA and OSHA as appropriate).
  • Ensures compliance with environmental internal work practices and regulatory standards applying to the work place, such as SPCC regulations on storage and disposal of used oils.
  • Implements departmental preventive maintenance and repair programs and procedures that ensure safety of employees and result in cost-effective utilization of company equipment.
  • Supervises the work of vehicle maintenance employees on a day-to-day basis; Utilizes knowledge of vehicle maintenance to train and improve employees’ knowledge, skills, effectiveness and safe work habits.
  • Approves and manages third party repair services. Prepares purchase justifications for large repair expenses and/or capital purchases.
  • Assists with the evaluation and review of new equipment purchases.
  • Ensures compliance with DOT and other agency regulations such as CSA 2010 with regards to vehicle maintenance and safe operation of Company equipment; Maintains current knowledge of federal, state and local legal requirements that apply to the safety, maintenance, repair, and operation of company vehicle equipment; Performs DOT safety inspections on equipment as needed.
  • Utilizes computer hardware and software to diagnose vehicle repair needs; Assists mechanics with repairs.  
  • Completes data entry records and reports in the Vehicle Maintenance database; Utilizes internet resources for parts identification and proper maintenance procedures on various equipment; Utilizes email for inter-departmental communications.
  • Partners with Procurement to place part orders, supplies and services required for vehicle maintenance and repairs, according to departmental procedures and requirements; Partners with warehouse management to maintain essential inventory of parts and supplies as needed.  
  • Prioritizes and schedules maintenance and repairs through eMaint (work order software) to effectively meet the operational needs of departments requesting vehicle maintenance work; Maintains a professional and customer-service oriented atmosphere in the department; Works cooperatively with a team approach with other department heads and supervisors.
  • Ensures accurate recording of technician labor hours assigned to work orders and manages completion of work within industry established flat rate hours.
  • Manages labor costs/overtime and other costs per goals and budgets assigned.
  • Ensures maintenance and availability of diesel engines required for kiln operations.
  • Manages equipment and processes related to on-road and off-road mobile equipment fuel storage and dispensing equipment.
  • Handles special projects.
Experience: 
  • Successful track record in managing a mobile diesel equipment repair facility(s), directly supervising 10 or more diesel mechanics/repair and service technicians. Minimum of 3 to 5 years supervising a Vehicle Maintenance Shop is preferred.
  • Highly qualified as a diesel mechanic; minimum 5 to 7 years of diesel maintenance repair technical experience. Full ASE Master Certification is a plus.
  • Highly qualified as a diesel mechanic trainer.
  • High level of competency and ability to partner with other leaders to prioritize work to strategically meet competing and changing needs among a variety of internal customers.
  • Experience and competency in managing a “customer centric” service model for vehicle repairs.
  • Experience and competency in developing and implementing preventive maintenance, and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Competency in utilizing Excel and Word software as well as vehicle diagnostic software.
  • Competency to work effectively with CMMS software for electronic work order system; Experience with eMaint Software a plus.
  • High level of integrity and reliability.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Strong team leadership skills; tact, diplomacy, professionalism.
  • Knowledge of DOT requirements for the transportation industry.
  • Current Texas CDL license and satisfactory driving record; CDL License is a plus.
  • Availability and willingness to respond to after-hours and weekend maintenance needs.
