Manager of Software Engineering
Our client is currently looking to fill a newly created Manager of Software Engineering position. This position will focus on our client’s platform mileage, rating, and routing business, which services the commercial fleet, shipper, carrier, and logistics markets. The Manager of Software Engineering is the focal point and lead person responsible for enhancements to, maintenance of, and architecture of the platform. Working closely with our client's platform team, the Manager of Software Engineering will translate requirements into actionable software development activities to create best in class products. Success in this position will assist in guiding the company to increased revenue, market share and profitability.

Responsibilities:
  • Architect the next generation of features and updates for our client's platform.
  • Lead, guide and manage offshore and onshore engineers to make necessary changes that secure a top market position for the company's platform; ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Establish controls and document the Agile SDLC process for the platform Engineering team.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all departmental functions, responsibilities, and processes.
  • Actively contribute to, and participate in, strategic planning activities with senior staff.
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies, product development, and competitive programs within the industry; ensure a continuing leadership position.
  • Responsible for new feature design and implementation.
  • Deliver on-time, on-budget implementation of new product features and platforms.
  • Manage 3rd level support for the company's platform.
  • Oversee regular, routine testing of competitive products to establish performance benchmarks against our client's own products.
  • Participate in creating the company’s strategic plan.
  • Work with Finance and Engineering to create product cost, pricing and margin targets.
  • Work closely with Sales to understand and implement voice of the customer requirements; ensure product conformance to customer requirements and all applicable industry standards.
  • Utilize Policy Deployment to manage and focus on key breakthrough opportunities that drive company performance to achieve world class status.
  • Create and achieve annual departmental budgets.

Experience:
  • Minimum BA or BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a Software Engineer position.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years commercial transportation industry experience preferred.
  • Web development and Logistics software engineering experience, 3 to 5 years preferred.
  • Experience with mapping, routing platforms a strong plus
  • Agile SDLC leadership experience, 3 to 5 years preferred.
  • Transportation Management Systems (TMS) integration experience a strong plus.
  • Experience engineering platforms with multiple API requirements and a track record of success.
  • Experience programming in cloud-based environments, Azure or AWS acceptable.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to formulate well documented, fact- based proposals.
